Newport Harbor High placed two girls and four boys on the Sea View League’s postseason all-league teams for soccer.

The girls made a late push to make the CIF Southern Section playoffs, finishing in a three-way tie with Woodbridge and Foothill for third place in league with a 4-4-2 record.

Despite not making the postseason, the Sailors had a big highlight when they knocked off eventual league champion Aliso Niguel, 2-1, on Jan. 31. At the time, the Wolverines were ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

Midfielder Emily Ohlhaver emerged as a top player for Newport Harbor and earned a spot on the All-Sea View League first team. Ohlhaver controlled the midfield in the Sailors’ upset of Aliso Niguel, setting up several scoring chances and scoring the tying goal in the contest. The sophomore figures to be the focal point of Newport Harbor’s offense for the next two seasons.

Junior forward Lindley Wren ? who scored the winning goal against Aliso Viejo ? was an all-league second-team pick for the Sailors, who finished with a 7-12-4 overall record in Phil D’Agostino’s second year as coach.

The Newport Harbor High boys’ soccer team fell short of making the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs this season, placing fifth in the Sea View League with a 2-7-1 record, but improved from a year ago ? going from three wins to seven in Coach Ryan Hernandez’s third season.

Senior midfielder Trafford Hill and senior defender Preston Kelly were All-Sea View League first team selections for Newport Harbor. Hill bounced back from an injury-plagued junior year to direct the midfield for the Sailors, scoring the winning penalty kick against Cerritos at the Trabuco Hills Tournament.

Junior twin midfielders Ruben and Will Trujillo were second-team all-league picks. Will Trujillo had two-goal performances in a 3-3 tie against Laguna Hills and a 3-1 victory against Cost Mesa. He also assisted on the winning goal in the Sailors’ 1-0 victory over Corona del Mar.
