Sage Hill scores in soccer awards

The Sage Hill School boys’ and girls’ soccer teams enjoyed success in the Academy League this season, and both teams were rewarded for their efforts.

The Lightning girls’ soccer team had seven all-league selections after advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division VI quarterfinals, losing to Maranatha, 2-1.

Sage Hill (20-4-1, 7-1-1 in league) finished second in the Academy League behind St. Margaret’s.

Senior defender Kelsey Rose, junior midfielder Emily Webb, sophomore midfielder Kellee Kim and senior defender Jules McLaughlin were All-Academy League first-team selections. Kim was the team’s leading scorer with 17 goals and eight assists, and Webb had five goals and five assists.

Senior defender Grace Graham, junior midfielder Kara Percival and junior midfielder Ali McLaughlin were second-team picks. Ali McLaughlin had 13 goals and 10 assists for the Lightning, Graham had three goals and four assists, and Percival added four goals and three assists.

The Sage Hill boys’ soccer team had 11 all-league selections after sharing the Academy League title. The Lightning (9-4-5, 7-0-3 in league) lost in overtime in the first round of the Division VI playoffs, 2-1, to Oak Park.

Lightning junior defender Alex Edelstein was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and Noureddine El Alam was selected as the Coach of the Year.

The first-team selections for the Lightning included Edelstein, senior Zach Milder and juniors Richard Gadbois, Tyler Ellis and Braden Ross. Ellis led the team in scoring with 10 goals, followed by Ross with eight and Gadbois and Milder with six apiece.

The all-league second-team picks were junior Conrad Whitaker and seniors Chris Neale, Zach Shockley, Ryan Holleman and Andrei Boboaca. Shockley recorded 31 saves in goal for the Lightning this season.
