Pirates play host to regatta

When you’re the oldest ? and in most years the only ? community college rowing program, you take your events seriously. Particularly your own.

So it’s safe to say Orange Coast College crew is primed and ready for this year’s Newport Regatta, Saturday at the OCC Boathouse on Newport Bay, starting at 7:30 a.m.

The field includes area rivals UC Irvine and Long Beach State, along with Southern California foes UC San Diego and Chapman, and UC Davis from Northern California.

A strong showing will be a must for all teams, but particularly OCC as Coach Larry Moore’s rowers prepare for the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Assn. Championships at the end of the month in Sacramento.
