EUGENE C. QUARRY

Former Newport Beach resident Eugene C. “Gene” Quarry died March 29 in Sacramento. He was 78.

Quarry, born in South Bend, Ind., was the fourth of seven children of Margarite and Kenneth Quarry, who moved to Costa Mesa in 1939.

A 1945 graduate of Newport Harbor High School, Quarry served as a reserve officer with the Newport Beach Police Department before joining the California Highway Patrol in 1960. After retiring from the Highway Patrol in 1981, he founded Quarry & Sons Brick Masonry in the Sacramento area.

Quarry is survived by sons Richard and Patrick Quarry; sisters Pat Myrehn of Carson City, Nev., Elaine Hornby of Citrus Heights and Mary Jo Wilson of Orangevale; brother Ron Quarry of Havasu City, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Carmichael Elks Club in Carmichael, Calif.
