Defense was the name of the game for the Icebreakers and the Mutiny in their weekend AYSO girls’ 10-and-under division match. With neither team able to pull away, the teams fought to a 1-1 tie.

The Icebreakers of Region 117 scored first, getting what turned out to be its only goal from Abby Webster as she sent a precise shot into the corner of the net off a cross from Dominique Duron.

Mutiny players Alex Holloway and Danielle Kutinsky also had scoring opportunities in the first quarter, but Icebreaker goalie Sarah Faubert kept the net clear.

Mutiny goalie Ariel Thelande also turned away several attempts on goal by the Icebreakers, who settled for a 1-0 lead at the half.

Defense again dominated the second half of play. Mutiny players Mallory Koci, Eli Usher and Dana Conlisk all had shots on goal, but were denied. Natalie Anzivino and Jessyca Lackey of the Mutiny helped thwart those scoring drives.

The Mutiny, out of Region 55, drew even off a throw-in in the fourth quarter. A pass by Simone Corkett went to center-forward Jeannine Escobar. She slid the ball to Conlisk, who sent a shot into the net just above an outstretched goalie.
