Tars’ duo gets wins

COSTA MESA ? Newport Harbor High finished fourth in the team standings at the Estancia High Invitational frosh-soph swim meet completed Saturday.

David Linden won the 50-yard freestyle (23.19 seconds) and Clinton Jorth won the 100 freestyle (50.45) to claim individual titles for the Sailors.

Jorth’s victory in the 100 free was a clean sweep for the Sailors, as Linden was second (51.06) and Spencer Richley was third (52.70).

The Tars’ 200 medley relay team of Zach Osdache, Linden, Colin Sherman and Jorth won in 1:48.24, as did the 400 free relay team of Linden, Sherman, Richley and Jorth (3:24.65).

Newport Harbor also had second-place finishes by Jorth (200 free in 1:48.78) and Sherman (200 individual medley in 2:10.68 and 100 breaststroke in 1:08.34). Richley was third in the 50 freestyle (24.18).

In the girls’ competition, Estancia placed seventh, led by Shea Kopp’s victories in the 50 free (25.25) and the 50 backstroke (29.08).

Meagan Kunert was fifth in the 200 free (2:07.14) and the 50 butterfly (30.32).

The Newport Harbor girls finished sixth as a team. Jessica Robinson placed fourth in the 100 IM (1:11.67).

Sailors Jessica Lincoln (50 free in 27.90), Mimi Bury (100 free in 58.39) and Katie Pederson (50 breaststroke in 34.56) all finished fifth in their respective events.
