Ocean View sets sights on six

The Ocean View High girls’ softball team moved over the .500 mark in Golden West League play Monday by defeating visiting Orange, 6-1.

The Seahawks scored their first run in the third inning and added their final five runs in the sixth in improving to 4-3 in league.

Orange slipped to 4-2 in league.

The Seahawks pounded out nine hits. Nikole Afusia doubled in the third inning and freshman Daae Cantu doubled in the sixth.

Cantu and Sandy Carroll each drove in two runs, and Sara Theophilus and Jen Hernandez each had an RBI.

Hernandez ignited Ocean View’s five-run rally in the sixth inning with a lead-off single. She scored on Cantu’s double.

On Saturday, Theophilus threw a no-hitter as Ocean View shutout Saddleback Valley Christian, 2-0, at the Estancia Tournament.

Theophilus , a senior, struck out six.

In other softball action Monday, Marina picked up a 6-3 win against Sunset League rival Los Alamitos. Krystal Heinle recorded her 16th win of the season and also doubled, as did teammate Mariah Nogueira for the Vikings.

Edison overcame a 3-1 deficit at Fountain Valley by scoring 10 runs in the top of the sixth and went on to score a 14-7 victory over the Barons in Sunset League play.

The Chargers, who finished with 12 hits, scored three more times in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Edison stepped out of league play to record two more victories on Saturday, blanking both Garden Grove, 2-0, and Bishop Amat, 1-0.
