Records fall at city meet

Three local youths set three new records at the City of Laguna Beach Community Services Dept.-sponsored city-wide track meet on April 8 at Laguna Beach High School.

The records that fell included:

John Swanson, competing in the Division 1991 (year born) 100-meter dash, won the event in 12.56. His record-winning time topped the event’s previous top time of 12.76 set by Patrick Bell in 1998.

Swanson also finished in first-place in the 200-meter run (28.66) and long jump (14-feet-3).

Olivia O’Hara is the new city record holder in the Division 1994 800-meter run. O’Hara’s time of 3:06 eclipsed the old record of 3:29.86, set 20 years ago by Kendra Carter in 1986.

O’Hara also won the 400-meter run (1:18.78) and the high jump (3-9).

Kathryn DeYoung set the other city record at the meet, winning the Division 1991(15-year-olds) 1600-meters in 6:19.25. She also took the 400-meter run (1:10.75) and long jump 12-11) in her division.

Other outstanding performances at the meet included Jonah Reynolds winning four events. Reynolds, competing in the youngest boys’ division (born 1999 or after), captured the 50-meter dash (11.66), 100-meter dash (24.43), long jump (7-l) and softball throw (43-feet).

Other triple winners:

Girls’

Division 1999: Maya Clemons won the 50 (9.56), 100 (19.68) and 200 (48.19).

Division 1998: Greer Jacobs won the 100 (17.66), 200 (41.12) and 400 (1:39.78).

Division 1996: Marlee Grosher won the 200 (34.04), high jump (3-6) and long jump (11-feet). Grosher has placed first in three events in each of the last four city meets, bringing her gold medal count to 12.

Division 1992: Karinne Sullivan won the 100 (14.73), 200 (31.16) and high jump (3-6).
