Anteaters complete sweep

DAVIS ? UC Irvine senior pitcher Glenn Swanson earned his second win in five days, following up Tuesday’s no-hitter against the University of San Diego by going into the sixth inning of the Anteaters’ 9-7 nonconference win at UC Davis on Sunday.

Swanson, who struck out 14 Tuesday, fanned just two in 5 2/3 innings against the Aggies. He surrendered eight hits and three earned runs, before exiting with a 6-3 lead in the sixth.

UCI scored runs in all but the third, fifth and ninth innings, collecting 15 hits to sweep the three-game series and extend its winning streak to five games.

Taylor Holiday, one of five ‘Eaters to produce multiple hits, went three for five with two RBIs.

Zach Robinson went three for four for the winners, who received two hits apiece from Gary Dudrey (a double, a triple and two RBIs), Aaron Lowenstein (one RBI) and Ben Orloff.

Dudrey, Lowenstein and Danny McCarthy all scored twice for UCI (28-17).

Davis fell to 13-26.

The Anteaters, who have won nine of their last 10, play host to UNLV on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in their only game this week.
