Laguna Beach High baseball coach Dave Dopf said he’s tired of analyzing the “what ifs” surrounding his team’s playoff chances.

The 2006 season has come down to just two more regular season games and beginning today, the Breakers hold their postseason fate in their own hands.

Today at 3:15 p.m., Laguna travels to Tesoro to take on the Titans in their final Pacific Coast League game.

On Tuesday, the Breakers close out the regular season at JSerra.

“I’m tired of all the talk. It’s just a matter of going out and winning, approaching this one game at a time,” Dopf said.

Time is of the essence for the Breakers, who hosted Tesoro Thursday before meeting up again with the Titans today.

Prior to Thursday’s game, Laguna stood in fourth-place in the Pacific Coast League standings, trailing league front-runner Corona del Mar, Northwood and Calvary Chapel.

“If we sweep Tesoro this week, then we’re in the playoffs, for sure,” Dopf said. “If we split, we still have a chance.”

Laguna put itself in a precarious spot by falling Friday to University, 5-3. A few days earlier, the Breakers had defeated the Trojans, 3-2.

In Friday’s game, Laguna trailed, 5-0, before scoring three runs in the sixth inning on a three-run home run by clean-up hitter Noah Brewster.

It was the fifth homer of the season for Brewster.

The Breakers managed seven hits, getting doubles from Ryan Landry in the first inning and another by Dalton Sype in the second.

Kevin Kelly started on the mound for Laguna and went one batter into the fifth inning before being relieved by closer Calvin Mead.

“We didn’t play well, at all,” said Dopf, whose team also was guilty of four errors. “We came out flat and then those bunch of errors cost us. We didn’t bring our game.”

Dopf said Kelly will get the start today against Tesoro.
