Live from the boat show

Ahoy.

The 33rd annual Newport Boat Show is going on now at Lido Marina Village.

I invite everyone to our Boathouse Radio Show’s tent today, where we will be broadcasting live. A great band will play before our broadcast and during commercial breaks, and then for another hour after the show. Our tent will be on the cobblestone street where you do not need a ticket, so just follow the music to find us. Tickets ? $12, child- ren under 12 free ? are required to go down on the docks to see the boats.

“Capt. Mike Whitehead’s Boathouse Radio Show” is on KCBQ-AM (1170) at noon and can be heard online at www.boathouseradio.com.

The Newport Boat Show is renowned as the West’s premier in-water big-boat show, and I can attest to the sheer number of boats in this year’s show. Lido Marina Village has been transformed into a mega-marina with temporary floating docks for the boats and wide walkways for spectators.

This boat show is a huge boost for our local economy. In addition to the benefit to marine businesses, hotels, restaurants and shops will see an influx from those in the show or just visiting.

The tip of the week is that you do not have to search for parking. I recommend that you take the shuttle to the Newport Boat Show from the Newport Tech Center on Superior Avenue and Industrial Way. Parking and the shuttle are free, so why not?
