OCC falls in tennis finals

SAN DIEGO ? Orange Coast College reached the singles and doubles final at the California Community College women’s tennis regional on Saturday.

The Pirates’ Jaleh Mazaheri lost to Grossmont College’s Yui Shimizu, 6-3, 6-3, in the finals. Mazaheri had defeated teammate Jessica Rice in the semifinals, also by a 6-3, 6-3 score.

In doubles, Rice and Emily Paulson were defeated by Shimizu and Alyse Tyson, 6-2, 6-4 in the championship. The OCC pair had eliminated Riverside’s Anabel Sanchez and Karissa Lentz, 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinals.

Orange Coast will play host to Grossmont in its final dual team match on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in preparation for the state championships.
