TWO PIRATES HONORED

Orange Coast College freshman Josh Bradbury has been named first-team All-Orange Empire Conference by coaches.

OCC freshman Eric Oliver is a second-team honoree, as is Cypress sophomore pitcher Nick Rhodes, a Corona del Mar High product.

Bradbury, another CdM High graduate who played third base and right field for the Pirates, hit .374 with 12 home runs and 34 RBIs, heading into the best-of-three Southern California Regional playoff series with Cypress that began Saturday.Oliver, a first baseman, hit .337 with nine homers and a team-high 41 RBIs through Tuesday.

Rhodes, bound for the University of Hawaii, was 8-1 with one save, a 3.36 earned-run average and 41 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings through Saturday for the Chargers.

UCI’S KAAKE LAUDED

UC Irvine junior Robyn Kaake has been named second-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, the first all-conference recognition for any player in the program’s history.

Kaake had 61 goals in 33 games, 1.85 per contest.

Lauren Machanis, a sophomore goalie who led the MPSF in saves with 285, received honorable mention.

BOMGREN THE BOMB

Vanguard University junior shortstop Rachel Bomgren has been named to the All-Golden State Athletic Conference softball team.

The lone Lion on the 18-player unit selected by the coaches, she hit .482 with five home runs and 32 RBIs. She had 40 runs, 81 hits and 13 doubles to earn All-GSAC recognition for the second time in her career.

Bomgren went 13 for 20 in three doubleheaders to close the season to earn Lion of the Week recognition from the school.

‘EATERS EARN BID

The UC Irvine men’s golf team received an at-large berth in the NCAA West Regional Championship, Thursday through Saturday at Tucson National Golf Club.

It’s the fifth trip to the 27-team regional in the last six years for the Anteaters, who finished second at the Big West Conference Championship in April.

Ten teams will advance from each of three regionals to the finals, May 31 through June 3 at Crosswater Club at Sunriver Resort in Oregon.

BREAKERS TICKETS

Tickets are on sale for the 2006 Newport Beach Breakers season. Seven home matches are scheduled at Palisades Tennis Club.

Individual tickets range from $15 to $85. Season tickets are available, starting at $150, and include a “Meet the Team” pass and parking passes.

SOCCER CAMP

Registration is now open for Newport Harbor High School Soccer Training Camps this summer at Harper School in Costa Mesa. Proceeds will go to the Sailors athletic program.

The camp is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through seventh grade. Sessions will be held July 10-21 and July 24 through Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Participants will get to learn new skills and improve their technique with Newport Harbor varsity players and coaches. Training groups will be no larger than 15 children.

PANCAKE RUN

Registration is now open for the Orange County Track Club’s ninth Pancake Breakfast 5k and Kids Race on June 11.

The race will take place at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, with proceeds going to the Estancia High cross-country and track and field program.

Registration is $20 for adults before June 1 ? $25 after ? and includes race entry, a T-shirt, breakfast and goodie bag. Children 12 and under may register for $10, which includes T-shirt, breakfast and goodie bag.
