MAKING AN IMPACT

The Bob White Kenpo Karate studio will present the Newport-Mesa chapter of the Royal Family Kids’ Camp with a check for $12,000 tonight.

The money, raised at the Bob White Invitational in March, will be donated to the Santa Ana-based organization, which takes abused children to a summer camp in Lake Arrowhead.

More than 200 competitors took part in the tournament and more than 20 sponsors got involved.

“I was so pleased,” Bob White said. “It’s so great when you’re giving and at the end of the day, you know it’s not about you. It’s about helping other people.”

CHARACTER COUNTS

The Vanguard University women’s tennis team has been given the Buffalo Funds Five Star Award by the NAIA. The team was honored for showing exceptional character values on and off the court.

“Whether in the classroom or on the tennis court, the team has an enormous dedication to success,” Vanguard Coach Mattias Johansson said in a press release. “The Lions have an overall grade point average above 3.5 and have been ranked as high as number three in the NAIA national ranking this year. Without responsibility, the team would not have accomplished this.”
