UCI tied for 7th

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The UC Irvine men’s golf team is tied for seventh after the first round of the NCAA West Regional at Tucson National Golf Club on Thursday.

UCI junior Brian Edick and sophomore Kenny Kim are tied for 15th after each shot 3-under 69.

Among the other Anteaters, Garrett Sapp (70) is 26th, Tim Cha (75) is 102nd and Derek Uyesaka (76) is 114th.

The second round is today with the final 18 holes scheduled for Saturday. The top 10 teams following Saturday’s final round will advance to the NCAA Championship at Sunriver, Ore., May 31-June 3.

Florida leads the 27-team field after shooting a 15-under 273 in the opening round. Arizona (279) is second and Fresno State (280) is third.

UCI, Pepperdine and Stanford each shot 5-under 283.

Dustin Pimm of Utah (66) is the individual leader.
