FOUR PIRATES PLAY ON

Four sophomores who helped Orange Coast College win the state women’s volleyball title last fall have signed to continue their careers at four-year schools, Coach Chuck Cutenese said.

Samantha Connor, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, will attend Wright State University in Dayton Ohio. Connor was first-team all-state and was also first-team All-Orange Empire Conference as a sophomore, when she totaled 186 kills and 58 blocks.

Brittney Ray, a 5-7 outside hitter, is going to Trevecca Nazarene University, an NAIA school in Nashville, Tenn. She was first-team all-conference and all-state after amassing 205 kills, 305 digs and 43 aces.

Caitlin Parker, a 5-7 setter, will play next season at Cal Baptist, an NAIA school in Riverside. She was first-team all-conference and all-state after posting 768 assists, 95 digs and 34 aces.

Christina Witt, a 5-10 outside hitter, will compete for Chapman University. She had 33 kills and 47 digs for the Pirates, who finished 26-0.

ROTKOWITZ RECOGNIZED

Nick Rotkowitz, a freshman shortstop for the Orange Coast baseball team, earned second-team All-Orange Empire Conference recognition for helping lead the Pirates to the Southern California Regional playoffs.

Rotkowitz hit .319 with one home run, 14 RBIs and 33 runs in 116 at-bats for the Pirates.

SOCCER CAMP

Registration is open for Newport Harbor High School Soccer Training Camps this summer at Harper Elementary School. Proceeds will go to the Sailors athletic program.

The camp is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through seventh grade. Sessions will be held July 10-21 and July 24 through Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Participants will learn new skills and improve their technique with Newport Harbor varsity players and coaches.
