Cockapoos Win
The Wicked Blue Cockapoos captured the 14-and-Under Division championship of Huntington Beach Girls Softball by defeating High Octane, 3-1, at Greer Field.
Erin Burke of the Cockapoos broke a scoreless tie with a two-run single that scored both Meghan White and Lana Rutkin in the third inning.
The Cockapoos added a third run in the fourth inning when Charlene Courtney singled and scored on a bunt single by Amanda Nicholaou.
The strong pitching performance of Jacqueline Kent kept the Cockapoos in control. Kent struck out 10, walked two and had an unearned run scored on her in the fifth in a complete-game victory that was her 13th win of the season.
Marlie Allen scored the only run for High Octane. Amanda Horowitz pitched well, striking out six and walking two.
The Cockapoos were led on offense by Burke, Kent, White and Nicholaou, who all singled twice, and Rutkin, who singled once.
Jessica Garcia had two hits, and Horowitz and Allen also singled for High Octane.
The division-winning Cockapoos are composed of White, Kent, Rutkin, Nicholaou, Burke, Courtney, Ashleigh McNiff, Kylee Lappin, Jennifer Le, Victoria Loeara and coaches Brian White, Ron Kent and Dave McNiff.
