Laguna Beach High’s run toward a CIF-Southern Section Division IV boys’ track-and-field championship came up just short Saturday at Cerritos College in Norwalk.

Despite outstanding efforts in both running and fielding events, the Breakers finished second to Oaks Christian in the boys’ Division IV competition. Oaks Christian won the division with 64 points. Laguna, meanwhile, scored 61 points and captured the CIF-SS runner-up plaque.

La Salle was in third place with 60 points. Thirty-six teams scored points in the division.

Laguna’s 4-by-400 relay team of Justin Rovin, Jeremy Eaton, Jonathon Martinez and Behrang Ziaeian won the Division IV title with a time of 3:25.02.

Rovin also had a pair of second-place finishes in the 110- and 300-hurdles.

“Most of the guys delivered their best performances of the year, but Oaks Christian simply overachieved and deserved to be the champions,” Laguna boys’ coach Dave Brobeck said. “Still, second in CIF is the highest finish ever for the Laguna boys’ track and field program.

“The boys were very proud of themselves and represented our school very well.”

Coach Earl Towner’s girls’ squad finished in 19th-place with nine points.

Below are the results turned in by the Laguna boys’ and girls’ athletes at Saturday’s Southern Section finals:
