CDM SPONSORS NEEDED

Sponsors are still being sought for the sixth annual Corona del Mar High Wiiffleball Tournament that will culminate the week of June 5-9.

The event, a fundraiser for the school’s wrestling program, is seeking sponsors to donate $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or any amount.

Some 60 teams, divided into four pools, will be pared to the “Sweet 16” for the final week of competition.

CDM ALUMNI TOURNEY

The 18th annual Corona del Mar High alumni basketball tournament is scheduled July 29 at the school’s two gyms.

All Corona del Mar High graduates are eligible to play in the event, which features pool play in the morning and a single-elimination tournament in the afternoon.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and concludes around 5 p.m.

GLEASON SPARKLES

Newport Harbor High product Ashley Gleason was among the team leaders during her recently completed freshman softball season at Dartmouth College.

Gleason, a four-time Newport-Mesa Dream Team honoree, started all but one of the Big Green’s 36 games at shortstop. She hit .211 for the season, but .294 in Ivy League play to help the team finish 14-22, 7-7 in league.

She had 14 RBIs, third most on the team, and her 23 hits included four doubles.

She went seven for 13 in games against Yale and Brown, after which she was named to the Ivy League Sports Honor Roll for the week ending April 18.
