The new (sort of) neighbors

Ever have neighbors who’d just drop in unannounced?

Well, that somewhat annoying occurrence was taken to new heights in Newport Beach last week, when residents along 33rd Street welcomed a whole new house to the neighborhood.

That’s right, a house.

But the Fettigs, who had the prefab home lowered onto their lot by a 240-ton crane, were lucky: Their neighbors didn’t seem to mind the drop in. Some even relished the unusual sight of a home suspended above its neighbors.

It probably helped that the Fettigs, including 91-year-old patriarch Ernest Schultz, have long lived on the block and simply were replacing Schultz’s old cottage. The neighbors at least don’t have to worry about the new folks on the block stopping by to ask for sugar.

(Does that still happen?)
