Breakers go undefeated
In their final tournament playing as a team, the Huntington Beach Breakers’ 14-and-Under baseball team won its division championship at the Fountain Valley Memorial Day Tournament.
The Breakers went undefeated (5-0) in the tournament and outscored their opponents, 39-17. They defeated Los Alamitos (10-3), Huntington Beach Alliance (6-5) and the So Cal Raptors (11-6) in eight innings, in early round action that determined seedings for the tournament.
The Breakers earned the No. 1 seed and went on to defeat the Fountain Valley Ballers, 7-2, in the semifinal round, and then again defeated the So Cal Raptors, this time in the title game by a score of 5-1.
Turning in outstanding pitching performances in the tournament for the Breakers were Brandon Adams, Tony Giovinetti, Sean Guite, Nic Hanson, Jimmy Madden and Zach Michael. Giovinetti gave up just a single hit and run in his five innings pitched and Adams gave up only one run in his six innings on the mound.
In the championship game, Guite and Hanson allowed one run on six hits and combined to strike out six.
Offensively, the Breakers had a team batting average of .294 and on-base percentage of .426. Guite and Woody Cash led the offense, with Guite leading the team in hitting with a game-winning home run in the Breakers’ third game; four doubles and two singles; six RBI and scored seven runs; a batting average of .539; and an on-base average of .625. Cash batted .364 with an on-base percentage of .588. He belted three home runs, including the game-winning homer in the championship game; singled; drove in eight runs and walked six times.
Other key contributions came from lead-off hitter Garrett Moore, who had three doubles among six hits; Michael batted .353 and drove in six runs; Josh Lesinski had three doubles, four RBI and scored six runs; Hanson, Madden and Adams each hit at or above .300 for the tournament; Aaron Ochoa singled twice and scored a run in the title game; and Chris Lien singled, walked three times and scored two runs.
The Breakers are led by Manager Tim Lien and coaches Jim Madden and Jaime Lesinski.
