Don’t call me: I won’t vote for you

Orange County has spoken, and as a result of Tuesday’s election, we have many of the old faces in new jobs.

Costa Mesa resident John Moorlach leaves the Orange County treasurer seat for the 2nd District supervisor seat. Jim Silva departs that seat and is the GOP nominee to represent the 67th District of the state Assembly. Tom Harman vacates the 67th Assembly District and moves to the 35th Senate District.

Is anyone confused?

In grade school we called it musical chairs. The nice thing is that everyone appears to still have work.

Speaking of still having work, Sheriff Mike Carona just squeaked by with 50.9% of the vote, avoiding a fall runoff.

And despite the elation afterward, no one was heard yelling, “Party at the Haidls’!”

The 5th District supervisor race will continue the mud-slinging into the fall, with a runoff between neighbors Patricia Bates and Cathryn DeYoung. Neither managed to win 50% of the required vote.

The lesson I learned from this election is how much I hate the recorded calls that come into your home throughout the day, the evening and even weekends.

To me, there’s nothing worse than relaxing on the couch after a long day and the phone rings. You get up, walk to the next room and say “hello” only to find out it’s a recorded message. The bad news is that because it’s recorded, you can’t even tell them off.

In the future, a recorded message to my home equals a vote in the other direction. I call it new-era politics.

Send all the garbage you want through the mail because I can throw it out. Just don’t tie up the phone.
