Costa Mesa resident Lane Calvert was installed as governor of Rotary District 5320 on Tuesday. He replaces Bill Peloquin, whose term had expired.

A member of the Rotary Club of Anaheim, Calvert will lead 50 Rotary clubs, with 2,400 Rotarians in Orange County and southern Los Angeles County for 2006-07.

Calvert, who has worked with the Boy Scouts for 30 years, is known to many in the area as the executive for Exploring of Orange County, a division of the Orange County Boy Scouts. Calvert and his wife, Connie, have been active in the Newport Bay Reserve as volunteer naturalists and on the Newport-Mesa-Irvine Interfaith Council.

Calvert outlined plans ? which include increasing the public’s awareness of what he considers the premiere service club in the world, increasing club membership and initiating several new district-wide service projects ? for the Rotary year.

Today, Calvert and his wife are leading 40 Rotarians and their spouses from District 5320 to the Rotary International Convention being held in Copenhagen and in Malmo, Sweden, until Wednesday. After a short vacation, one of Calvert’s first official acts upon his return will be to present the new Rotary Club of Costa Mesa its Club Charter on Friday, July 6, 2006 at a Charter Night Banquet being held at the Hilton Costa Mesa.

Calvert will visit the 50 clubs several times during the coming year as he serves as representative to the new Rotary International President William Boyd of New Zealand.
