Rowers move on to final

BATAVIA, Ohio ? Evan Fullerton and Will Prioleau of the Newport Aquatic Center finished third in their semifinal heat Saturday to advance to the men’s doubles final of the U.S. Rowing National Youth Championships, set for today.

Coach Larry Moore, who also coaches crew at Orange Coast College, said the team was trying to conserve energy and was focused on simply qualifying for today’s grand final.

Fullerton and Prioleau completed the 2,000-meter course on Lake Harsha, just outside Cincinnati, in 7 minutes, 32.57 seconds Saturday to advance.

The final is scheduleled for today at 10:20 a.m.

The NAC girls’ lightweight eight boat finished fourth in its semifinal heat with a time of 7:23.76. The team missed qualifying for the final by fewer than three seconds.

The girls’ lightweight eight will compete in a consolation heat, consisting of qualifiers seven through 13, today at 11:16 a.m.
