LAKE FOREST ? The Newport Beach American Little League Majors A’s ended their season with a 6-2 loss to the Lake Forest Reds in the quarterfinals of the District 55 Tournament of Champions on Monday.

The A’s gave up five unearned runs.

“We just made a couple of mistakes,” A’s Manager Mike Favreau said. “They were a pretty good team. We matched up well against them. We just didn’t play our best game.”

The A’s took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an error after loading the bases.

J.D. Dawn added a solo home run in the third inning for the A’s.

“All in all, we didn’t hit them that well,” Favreau said. “If we would have played the game we played against Laguna Hills or the game we played against Laguna Niguel, we would have given them a much better game.”

Dawn pitched the first three innings and Chase Favreau pitched the final three.

“We had a group of kids who really worked well as a team,” Mike Favreau said. “They gelled later in the season. They really learned the game and they played well as a team. They knew what to do. My goal was to sit on the sideline and teach them. I didn’t have to say anything.”
