PHOTO OF THE WEEK That’s what families are for

Photographer Kent Treptow said Marisela Sandoval wasn’t too happy about being attacked with Silly String and confetti. But to her family, which must have been a little more than pleased that she’d graduated high school, such a celebration was a fun way to show their love and to congratulate their graduate.

The Estancia High School graduate joined 1,463 other students of Newport-Mesa Unified School District high schools on Thursday in shaking with the right hand, receiving the diploma with the left. In covering graduations, photographers look for something other than the ordinary walk across the stage; they also try to capture the mood of the event. A graduate covered in Silly String succeeds in both respects.

Congratulations to all the graduates, and let’s hope Marisela can wash that Silly String off her sunglasses. dpt.23-grad-est-cover-2-CPhotoInfoCS1SAAHO20060625j1aptzncKENT TREPTOW / DAILY PILOT(LA)Marisela Sandoval’s family covers the Estancia High School graduate with Silly String on Thursday.
