High school tennis players are needed to take part in the High School World Team Tennis League, which runs three consecutive weekends beginning July 15 at the Balboa Bay Club Racquet Club.
The league, which will compete Saturdays and Sundays from 2-5 p.m., is endorsed by the CIF Southern Section.
A minimum of three boys and three girls are needed for each competition but the roster for each school can list up to 36 players.
Returning high school players from the varsity or junior varsity, upperclassmen not on last year’s team, as well as incoming freshmen are eligible to represent their high school team. All players on a roster must be from the same high school.
The third year of the league will have some changes. Competition will now go from six sets to nine to accommodate more players.
Each match will consist of three rounds.
Round one will feature two boys’ singles and one girls’ doubles set.
Round two has two girls’ singles and one boys’ doubles set.
The final round consists of three mixed doubles sets.
Mater Dei won the league in the first year and Sage Hill earned the title in 2005.
Players receive free tickets to the WTT Newport Beach Breakers matches at the Palisades Tennis Club when they register online at www.wtt.com.
