District 55 Tournament

Newport Beach American Majors All-Stars fall:

The Newport Beach American Little League Majors Division All-Stars were defeated, 11-6, by Laguna Hills on Tuesday in the championship bracket semifinals of the District 55 Touranment at Chapparosa Park in Laguna Niguel.

Laguna Hills scored four in the first inning and led, 5-0, before Newport Beach broke through in the third inning.

Andrew McCormack, who went three for four with three RBIs, singled home J.D. Dawn, who had doubled with two outs, to give Newport Beach a run.

Trailing, 8-3, Newport Beach scored two in the fourth, including an RBI single by Scott Youngman.

A bases-loaded walk by Erik Fisher produced a fifth-inning run for Newport Beach, which plays Laguna Niguel in an elimination game tonight at 6:30 at Chapparosa Park.

A two-run single by McCormack capped a sixth-inning rally for Newport Beach, which matched Laguna Hills with 11 hits.

Newport Beach’s defense, typically a strength, commited four errors.

Fisher went two for two with one run and the aforementioned RBI, while Dawn was two for four with two runs for Newport Beach.

Allen Brown, Brent Lawson and Chase Favreau added hits for Newport Beach.

Two Laguna Hills pitchers combined to strike out nine and Andrew Whitt belted a homer for the winners.
