WHAT IT MEANS

Aqualube will clean the public waterways in Huntington Harbour once per week at a cost per year not to exceed $77,100. The County of Orange will contribute about $37,500 of the cleaning cost. The council chose the option of cleaning once a week over twice a week, citing costs concerns.

SALE, TRANFER OF SENIOR APARTMENTS

Council members approved the sale and transfer of the 271-unit senior apartments at 7181 Garden Glen Dr. from FountainGlen Properties LLC to FG Seacliff Senior Apartments.

WHAT IT MEANS

The sale and transfer of ownership was a routine one, although seniors living in the community had been worried they would lose benefits from a bond issue that helps low-income seniors with renting costs. Economic Development Director Stanley Smalewitz assured council members that there would be no change in benefits for recipients under the bond issue.

FRANCHISE AGREEMENT WITH RAINBOW

The City Council decided to move study and discussion of the franchise agreement with Rainbow Disposal to the next meeting, on July 17. The agreement includes waste and recycling collection as an upgrade and modernization at Rainbow’s facility at 17121 Nichols St.

WHAT IT MEANS

Council members approved a substitute motion to study Rainbow’s request for changes in its franchise agreement before voting on it. The company wants to modernize its aging facility and buy new, low-emission collection vehicles.

Rainbow will also implement a program to collect the city’s garbage and recyclables, using automated trucks. The cost of changes will be borne by Rainbow.
