Rep. Dana Rohrabacher was the keynote speaker Saturday when the Republican Party of Orange County opened a satellite campaign headquarters in Huntington Beach and three others in Lake Forest, Placentia and Irvine to gear up for November elections. The office is at 16541 Gothard St., but headquarters will be on Katella Avenue in Orange.

The operation centers are for Get-Out-The-Vote efforts, the party’s precinct organizations and phone banks. Scott Baugh, Republican Party of Orange County chairman, said in a news release the party is “preparing an unprecedented Get-Out-The-Vote effort for this fall.”

With elections about 127 days away, the satellite offices are the foundation of the party’s grassroots organization, Baugh said.

Quiksilver makes deal with Russian company

Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver Inc. is planning to market and distribute its products in Russia in a joint venture with Sprandi International Ltd. The surf and sports apparel company is looking at creating a network of retail stores and wholesale business in Russia.

Quiksilver, which will own a majority stake in the venture, said in a news release that the company believes the “Russian market is increasingly vibrant and that its brands have a strong, resonant message and considerable untapped potential with Russian consumers.”

Its partner Sprandi International is well-regarded in Russia and Eastern Europe for footwear, apparel and accessories.

“The boardriding lifestyle and its ties to music and other aspects of popular Western culture have begun to see a massive expansion in Russia,” Quiksilver’s president Bernard Mariette said in a news release.

Success in Russia would mean forays into other Eastern European markets, Mariette said.

“The Russian consumer market is very strong, and we believe that both Quiksilver and Roxy have enormous potential for our young consumers,” said Dinesh Sahani, founder and chief executive of Sprandi International.

Quiksilver’s Roxy, DC Shoes and Hawk brands are popular with surfers, skateboarders and snowboarders. It also owns beach and swimwear brands such as Raisins, Radio Fiji and Leilani.
