SURFING SOAPBOX:Drop the circular logic

On Tues- day night I left 20 minutes early for my Laguna Beach envir- onmental committee meeting, mistakenly thinking that it would be enough time for our 6:30 p.m. start time.

Around and around in circles I drove, until I finally parked at a friend’s place of business and left a note saying that I had permission by the owner to park there.

Maybe I should have known better. After all, it used to be only in the summertime or on weekends that we had such parking concerns as locals here. Now it happens all year.

Weekends used to be the most crowded days. Now it’s every day.

At one point, I grew so fed up with driving around in circles that I almost drove home and was ready just to throw in the towel, never to return to the downtown area again.

Is it too much to ask for

resident-only parking?

One can only take so much of seeing the new Laguna Beach ? on a Tuesday night, no less.

Bumper to bumper traffic. Honking. I haven’t even mentioned the scene outside City Hall where a City Council meeting was being held ? and no, I am not referring to those eyes bulging out of people’s head, wondering what the heck those statues are, anyway.

If those new statues are to depict the new Laguna, shouldn’t they be holding cell phones up to their ears?

Yeah, I’m guilty of having one, too.

Outside City Hall there was some sort of demonstration going on that I don’t want to even mention or give credence to. It’s strange that now in our town people come to protest about what is going on here.

Yes, of course, there were TV trucks parked outside.

All of this was happening on what use to be just another lonely Tuesday night in Laguna Beach.

I would ride a skateboard next time, but I think those have been banned, too.

We actually discussed the banning of burning fire wood in private homes at one of our committee meetings.

You know, maybe MTV does have something ? it is a soap opera here.

Peace.
