SOUNDING OFF:City should go with two smaller centers

In my opinion, two or three smaller senior centers, in various parts of town, would make more sense than one new center.

The current senior center needs improvements, but it is still a great site. My concern is: We keep talking senior center, but from what I read it is also a rental hall, community center, etc.

I want seniors to have a nice place to go, and I know our city can do that. I just don’t think Central Park is the place. I do live within 1,000 feet of the portion of the park that is in the spotlight. It really is an amazing part of the park, with huge shade trees and hawks, owls, coyotes, etc. This is hard to come by in a city.

I am afraid now that the proposed site will have a Measure C vote, people will be misinformed. I believe the “good ole boys” of Huntington Beach will work it so the public will not understand exactly what they are voting for.

Our voters are very intelligent, no doubt there. But our local government, with their attorneys, can prepare something that loses the general public.

The cost of this center would start at $23 million; the environmental impact would be devastating. I ask that voters do consider the two or three smaller centers. That is more feasible for our seniors.
