SURFING SOAPBOX:Does anybody care?

What happened?

Where did all the people go who used to care?

I sit at our environmental committee meetings and wonder where all the people are who say they care so much. People who say, “It’s such a wonderful thing you are doing,” but then I have to ask, “Where are you?”

Purple, green and red, it never mattered the color of your politics ? it was always about the cause.

Where should I start?

Aliso Creek: It’s still dead, and I don’t think CPR is going to bring it back. Project Mar Vista just killed another hillside.

To build or not to build?

It could be said that river green now runs directly through Laguna ? or should I just say runs it?

Whole city blocks are being bought up one at a time. New construction seems to dominate every corner. Pearl Street. Brooks Street. I can barely say the words Diamond Crestview.

Never mind the show “Nip/Tuck” ? it’s right here and the patient’s name is Laguna Beach. At the Pottery Shack ? or whatever its new name is ? even the Greeter got “nipped and tucked.”

What’s next? Maybe me.

Maybe the new city slogan should be “Out with the sandals and trees.”

In with the new and out with the old. Or should that be our City Council?

The cause is once again now.

It’s time for a new march.

A new stand, much like the one taken years ago down Laguna Canyon Road.

Can I just ask: With all this big money, where is the give-back?

What about the community and beaches?

Where do we draw the line and save what’s left of the integrity of our town?

I mean, is there none left in our town, our City Council?

Not even the symbol of Laguna Beach ? the “L” on the hill ? is monitored and repainted by the city. It is individuals like others and myself who paint it when needed.

Because we care.

This town needs your help, your voice and your honor to make a change.

Do what’s right and begin today by giving back.

Peace.
