Huntington Valley All-Stars eliminated
Huntington Valley Little League’s 9/10 All-Star team had its run come to an end Sunday in the Section 5 tournament.
Huntington Valley, champion of District 62, fell to District 30 winner Orange, 10-0, in the double-elimination tournament played at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo. The game was halted after four innings by the mercy rule. Huntington Valley went 1-2 in the tournament.
Manager Ron Wilson said the locals dropped their opener Friday to District 68 champion Mission Viejo, 11-1, but bounced back Saturday to eliminate Anaheim Loara of District 46, 3-1.
In the win over Loara, starter Andrew Bogard, reliever Sean O’Toole and closer Jake Weiser combined on the victory. Weiser also had the big blast for Huntington Valley: His three-run double off the outfield fence in the third inning wiped out a 1-0 deficit.
“I was proud of the way the boys came back from the big loss to Mission Viejo to win this game,” Wilson said. “They showed a lot of character.”
Huntington Valley went undefeated (4-0) to win the District 62 crown and qualify for the Section tournament.
“This is a great group of boys,” Wilson said. “They never played together before, so this is a pure all-star team. For three weeks they really came together and played ball. They had a great experience.”
The Huntington Valley 9/10 All-Stars are Jarrett Anton, Andrew Bogard, Jake Weiser, Ryan Morrissey, Sean O’Toole, Mathew Tavakoli, Garrett Garcia, Tyler Murray, Peter Goode, Dillon Millar, Ian Wilson, Joey Groth, Jesse Fortune, Brad Dominick, Manager Ron Wilson and Coaches Steve Bogard and Dave Weiser.
