Hurley appoints new executive

Costa Mesa-based Hurley International announced Friday that Maria Barnes will join the company as senior vice president of the brand’s Women’s Young Contemporary division.

Barnes previously worked for Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver as the head of sales for Roxy swimwear and accessories in North America.

Independently run, Hurley International is a subsidiary of Nike and focuses on surf fashion with roots in surf, skate, music and art.

Satellite tech company launches in Newport

A new technology company hit Newport Beach last month and is now attempting to launch mobile device global positioning systems, along with other wireless handset opportunities.

GloNav Inc. is a spinoff of Ceva Inc. and RFDomus Inc. with a $16.2 million investment by Atlantic Bridge Ventures, a European venture capital firm.

With 20 years of technological development and more than $60 million in investment under its belt, the company hopes to install global positioning systems in more than 5 million mobile devices and develop other satellite navigation technologies.

In addition to its Newport Beach headquarters, the company also has two research and development facilities in the United Kingdom and Ireland and an Asian-Pacific sales office.

GloNav is a private company and Ceva Inc. has 19.9% equity ownership in the company.

Farmers market now open at the Camp

A Farm & Art Market launched Sunday and will continue from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday.

The market will feature California-grown produce from small independent farms, fresh flowers, local artists and live music to continue with its mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Artists from Co-Op Galleries Inc., a group run by students and artists, and a wide variety of media will be on display each week, including glassblowers, woodworkers, jewelers, photographers and painters.

The group has regularly put on shows for artists at the Camp and the Lab for the last two years.

Shifts in Irvine Co., Island Hotel management

The Irvine Co. announced Friday that Newport Beach resident Raymond Jacobi will replace Hansjoerg Maissen as general manager of The Island Hotel Newport Beach.

Maissen will remain with the company to oversee its golf properties.

Previously, Jacobi worked as chief executive of Telluride Ski & Golf Resort, chief operating officer of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and he runs a Newport hotel consulting firm.

The Island Hotel, which was previously run by Four Seasons, went under The Irvine Co. management last year.
