YOUTH SWIMMING:Harbor View defeats rival

The Harbor View swim team topped neighborhood rival Newport Hills, 720-586, in a South Coast Swim Conference dual meet on Saturday.

Both teams now prepare for the South Coast Swim Conference finals, scheduled to be held Saturday at Corona del Mar High.

For Harbor View, 7-and 8-year-old boys’ swimmer Justin Hanson set individual records in the 50-yard freestyle (32.65 seconds), 25 butterfly (15.12) and 25 backstroke (17.58).

Hanson was also a part of the record-setting 7-8 boys’ 100 free relay team, also featuring Timmy Hanson, Joe Alvarado and Robert Naruse. The relay finished in 1 minute, 1.40 seconds.

Ellen Naruse set a pool record in the 9-and 10-year-old girls’ 100 individual medley with a time of 1:12.81.

Other pool records were set by Anna Venturini in the 11-12 girls’ 100 IM (1:10.85), and Heather Van Hiel in the 13-14 girls’ 50 free (26.15).

The Harbor View 11-12 girls’ 200 medley relay team of Venturini, Pippa Saunders, Delaney Pouch and Stephanie McPhillips broke a record with its time of 2:10.40.

For the Newport Hills girls, Leah Givant, Natalie Wilde and Sarah Furgatch all won two individual events.

Henry Wilde, Alex Wilde and Patrick White all won two individual events for the Newport Hills boys.
