Senior center another bad scene for cityOnce again, the Huntington Beach public is being victimized by a gross distortion of the facts regarding a proposed project in our city. Not that long ago, it was the Sports Complex. Recently, it was the Poseidon desalination plant. Now, it is the senior center.

The proposed community facility for Central Park is being “sold” to the public as a “senior center.” That is as disingenuous as the Sports Complex and the Poseidon desalination plant.

It amounts to another giveaway to the developers and another overpriced, underutilized, environmentally destructive monument to the greed, arrogance and, I think, borderline corruption pervading City Hall under the present council majority.

The last straw was the vote to turn Measure C on its head in protecting us from civic rip-offs. So much for representing the best interests of our residents!

It’s time voters in our city woke up to the blatant flimflamming that is going on with this project and demand a full accounting of the facts before approving the so-called “Senior Center” project on its current site.

Animals need a place to live, tooI am so against them building a senior center at Central Park. Why can’t they just add a 2nd story to the existing building or find another lot? We need the land for whatever animals are left. If you need help with protesting this before voting, count me in. Where do I sign up?

Need to keep seniors active at centerI use the Huntington Beach Senior Center at least once a week, if not more. I also use the Fountain Valley Senior Center. I am all for putting the proposed senior center on the Huntington Beach ballot in November.

I retired just one year ago this month and quickly discovered all the wonderful activities available to seniors. I never realized it before. What astonishes me most is how many seniors are taking advantage of these centers. Retirees no longer sit in rocking chairs and watch television all day long! In fact, most of us are out there taking advantage of the various activities offered to us!

Wildlife center a boon to the communityThank you so much for the article on the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center’s pelican release, “Pelicans back in the swim.” This community is so fortunate to have this facility and the dedicated staff who make such a difference. My husband assisted recently in getting a pelican to the care center, knowing that it was in the best of hands. If only everyone cared for our precious wildlife the way they do.

Beach Games no bank for Surf CityI believe the Bank of the West Beach Games are not good for the city.

It further defines Huntington as a party destination for young people and increases the already boggled traffic, where residents still wish for a peaceful place to live.

Beach Games are great for HuntingtonI just sold my house in Huntington Beach and bought a house in Yorba Linda, and I think the beach games are great for Surf City, and I support that 100%.

Put Golden Bear where it can liveThose who want to bring back the Golden Bear should look at what San Juan Capistrano did with the Coach House. Located in a business park, it opens when shops nearby close, so parking is not a problem; neither is noise.

The Golden Bear’s Golden Age just might be beginning if it were situated in an industrial park like the Coach House, Galaxy Theatre and others in Costa Mesa.
