TIGER AT MESA VERDE

Tiger Woods, who won his 11th major championship at the British Open on July 23 to up his professional tournament victory total to 49, as well as Fred Couples will hold a golf exhibition Oct. 7 at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa.

Woods and Couples will perform the exhibition as part of Woods’ second annual OC Block Party to benefit the Tiger Woods Learning Center.

The Block Party will be held in the evening at The Grove in Anaheim.

UCI’S BAILEY SCORES

Former UC Irvine All-American and two-time Olympian Ryan Bailey scored a goal in Team USA’s 7-5 win over Greece Thursday in the FINA World League Super Final in Athens, Greece.

The Americans lost later in the day to Serbia

EDICK SIX SHOTS BACK

UC Irvine’s Brian Edick shot a 1-under-par 70 Thursday and is in 22nd place entering today’s final round of the 40th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.

Edick, who has one year of eligibility remaining with the Anteaters, has a 54-hole score of 6-over 218 (73-75-70).

Adam Hagen and Patrick Nagle are the leaders, six shots ahead of Edick.

SPEEDWAY SATURDAY

Speedway motorcycle racing returns to Costa Mesa Saturday with Round One of the American Motorcyclists’ Assn. United States National Championship Series at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

The event, which features former national champions including Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa, begins at 7:30 p.m.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and parking is free.
