Suspect arrested in June 10 slaying

Days after a deadly shooting rattled a Costa Mesa apartment complex, police announced they have arrested a suspect in an unrelated June 10 killing.

Costa Mesa resident Francisco Sierra was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of narcotics and probation violations during a traffic stop. After interviewing him in custody, police believe he is responsible for the shooting death of a 38-year-old Costa Mesa man nearly two months ago.

Andres Norberto Hernandez Roxon was found dead by police at 5:30 a.m. June 10 in an alley behind the 800 block of Center Street. Roxon had been shot several times, police said.

Police would not reveal specifics of the killing but said the men lived near one another and were “acquaintances,” Costa Mesa Police Det. Don Holford said.

Sierra’s arrest has nothing to do with the Wednesday night shooting spree that left one man dead and four injured in the 1300 block of West Baker Street, Holford said. Police are still searching for a suspect in that killing.

Sierra was stopped by police Tuesday night in a traffic stop and was arrested on suspicion of narcotics violation and probation violation. Police asked Sierra about Roxon’s death, and from the interview investigators felt they had enough information that implicated Sierra in Roxon’s death, Holford said.

While in jail Wednesday, Sierra was arrested on suspicion of murder.

As of Friday, the district attorney’s office had not yet received the case from police or filed charges, Orange County District Attorney’s office spokeswoman Susan Schroeder said.

Police said Sierra will likely be arraigned Monday at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
