NEWPORT HILLS SHINES

The Newport Hills swim team set a number of team records on July 29 in its South Coast Swim Conference dual meet with neighborhood rival Harbor View.

The Killer Whales’ Sarah Furgatch broke set team records in the 13- and 14-year-old girls’ 50-yard butterfly (28.31 seconds) and the 50 backstroke (30.84).

The Newport Hills 15-18 boys’ 200 freestyle relay team of Scott Sanford, Taylor Storm, Greg Sanford and Patrick White also set a team record of 1 minute, 33.09 seconds.

A number of Newport Hills team members also set season-best times while winning events.

On the girls’ side, those swimmers were Lauren Openshaw (6-and-under 25 breaststroke), Leah Givant (6-and-under 25 fly), and in the 7-8 division, MacKenzie Morsey (25 breaststroke) and Madeline Musselman (50 free).

On the boys’ side, season-bests were established by event winners Henry Wilde (6-and-under 25 breaststroke), Nick Schroeder (7-8 division 25 free), Mitch Dean (7-8 division 25 breaststroke), Alex Wilde (9-10 division 50 back), Patrick White (15-18 division 50 free), Anthony Gelman (15-18 division 50 breaststroke) and Scott Sanford (15-18 division 50 fly).
