Quiksilver sweatshirts recalled

Edgy surf and sports apparel company Quiksilver Inc. recalled about 9,700 hooded sweatshirts that it said can pose a strangulation risk to children.
Huntington Beach-based Quiksilver voluntarily recalled the sweatshirts. There were no reports of anyone being hurt.
“There are no injuries, no problem,” said Barbara McAndrews, Quiksilver attorney. “But the CPSC recommends that children’s upper and outer wear not have drawstrings up at the neck.”
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines indicate that drawstrings should be excluded in children’s clothing.
It’s not really a recall but rather a repair, McAndrews said. Many were repaired before they were sold by removing the drawstring, but about 9,700 sweatshirts still remain out there, she said.
The “Hide & Seek” sweatshirts, that cost about $40, were for girls in sizes ranging from small to extra large.
The sweatshirts are pink, white, brown, navy or green with a beaded heart logo and embroidered flowers on the front above the left pocket. “Roxy Girl” is printed on the collar label.
“We never have anything with a draw cord on for our little girl products,” said Dave Rosenberger, vice president of sales for Quiksilver Boys and Winter Sports.
“The instructions to our manufacturer were never to put any drawstrings, but somehow they went ahead and put the drawstring anyway,” Rosenberger added.
The sweatshirts were manufactured in Pakistan.
The company advised buyers or parents to remove the drawstring from the sweatshirt immediately to prevent any mishaps.

The sweatshirts can be returned to the store where they were purchased or mailed back to Quiksilver for a full refund at Consumer Replacements/ Recalled Merchandise, 5600 Argosy Circle, Suite 300, Huntington Beach, Calif. 92649.
