LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I do not expect or want an apology from the Newport-Mesa Unified School District or its board.

After reading the Daily Pilot’s article on July 27 (“Web glitch nixes school-board run”) and seeing Laura Boss’ comment — “Normally, everyone, if they’re going to run, they call our office and check, and on good faith, he checked the website and thought for sure he was in Linda Sneen’s area” — I felt I owe the apology for any inconvenience I caused her or the board. I did on good faith trust the information on the school district’s website. I guess this shows how many of us rely on the Internet for information and how that information can create problems. Turns out that I am only one street off the District 2 boundaries.

I want to thank those board members who accepted my offer of a “get to know me” meeting. I know without doubt that I would be an asset to the board.

My frustration to this event surfaced when I learned that a concern had been sent to the school board regarding my (supposed) political alliance. I have never publicly disclosed whom (if any) I back politically. This concern was raised because of certain people that attended one of our community events. In the capacity of president of the Halecrest/Hall of Fame Homeowners Assn., I invite community leaders to share in our events so they can see the great community we share. We do not endorse “soap box” events. We invite all council members and welcome anyone who responds. We as a homeowners association are nonpartisan but welcome any support given to our community. I perform my duties as homeowner association president to help my community be safe and informed of projects affecting our neighborhood, not to give ammunition for someone to use in a political campaign.

For the record, my main reason for wanting a school board seat is to help the children of our city acquire the tools they need to prepare them for life. I felt my goal was to help children through the education process.

My request to those that speculate as to my political concerns/beliefs, please ask me and I will be happy to sit and discuss. I do not need or want someone speaking for me.

I promise I will be back someday to gain a position that will allow me to make a positive difference in our schools and in our city.
