Here are a few items the council considered Tuesday.

PLANNING COMMISSION APPOINTMENTCouncil members named architect Scott Peotter to the city’s planning commission. He was one of three applicants but received the most votes — Tim Brown got two votes, and Aline Kradjian received none, while Peotter got four votes. Councilman Dick Nichols was absent and did not vote.

Peotter, who applied for appointment to the District 7 council seat after John Heffernan resigned in January, will serve on the commission through June 2010.

ENCROACHMENT SURVEYThe council voted unanimously to spend $18,456 on a professional survey of patios and other structures that are encroaching beyond residents’ property lines in Peninsula Point. The city has been investigating the encroachments onto public beach and has sent some property owners notices of violation.

The survey may be useful if residents petition the city to allow their encroachments with a permit, as is done in West Newport.

WHAT IT MEANS

A survey of the encroachments will be performed.
