Taylor bows out

BEIJING, China — Former Newport Harbor High standout Bo Taylor failed to advance from discus qualifying at the World Junior Championships track and field meet on Tuesday.

Taylor, who won the discus throw at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and the USA Junior Outdoor Championships in June, finished 11th among 14 entries in the morning qualifying round.

His best throw with the 1.75 kilogram discus (heavier than the one he used in high school) was 52.96 meters, roughly 173 feet, 9 inches.

The UCLA-bound Taylor is scheduled to compete in the shot put, with qualifying set for Friday morning.

Beijing time is 16 hours ahead.

ANTEATERS’ ERAZO SIXTH

UC Irvine swimmer Eddie Erazo finished sixth in the 200-meter butterfly at the USA Swimming National Championships at Irvine High.

Erazo, who was third in the 200 fly at the Big West Conference Championships last season as a sophomore, posted a time of 2 minutes, .59 seconds at the nationals on Aug. 2.
