CdM boys capture crown

The Corona del Mar 14-and-under junior water polo team won the 38th annual Hawaiian Invitational Tournament, completed Sunday at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.

Corona del Mar went 4-1, including a 12-10 title-game win over South Coast A.

The win avenged CdM’s lone tournament loss.

CdM’s Isle Anderson was named tournament MVP.

Other players included Farrel South, Teddy Bandaruk, Miles Carpenter, Jake Bandaruk, Hayden Leach, Blake Terry, Tyler Wright, Chase Watson and Emery Molnar.

  • The Newport Water Polo Foundation boys’ 16-and-under team finished 18th at the 2006 S&R; Sport National Junior Olympics, completed Aug. 1 in and around Claremont.

    Newport went 4-3, falling to Texas, 4-2, in the 17th-place game at Pomona College.

    The Newport 18-and-under boys’ team went 3-4. It lost, 9-5, to Riverside in the 25th-place game at Mt. SAC.

    Newport’s 14-and-under boys’ team finished 28th in its age division, losing to Navy, 6-3, in the 27th-place game at Pomona College.
