Here are a few items the council considered Tuesday.

REMODELING INCENTIVES

The council approved for a second time a program that encourages homeowners to fix up their homes.

The pilot program was implemented in the city from September to December 2005 and was successful.

The program waived several construction fees that included permit fees for building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work.

WHAT IT MEANS

Residents will get a chance to take advantage of the program, which will run Sept. 5 to Dec. 15 of this year.

BEACH PIT BBQ

The City Council upheld a planning commission denial of a minor conditional-use permit to allow an outdoor television behind the Beach Pit BBQ restaurant.

The council voted, 3-1, with Councilman Gary Monahan casting the dissenting vote. Councilwoman Katrina Foley was absent from the meeting due to an illness.

WHAT IT MEANS

On July 10, the planning commission denied the permit to the restaurant at 1676 Tustin Ave. because it felt nearby residents would be affected by the higher noise levels created by additional outdoor activity due to cheering or other forms of audience participation. On Tuesday, the majority of the council agreed with the commission’s decision.

MOBILE HOME

The council decided to postpone a rehearing of the removal of a mobile home at 2333 Elden Ave. until its Sept. 5 meeting.

On Aug. 1, the council gave the owners of the renovated mobile home 120 days to move it from an Eastside property.

The council decided to postpone the rehearing because Foley, who requested the council vote to rehear the issue, was absent.

The council on Aug. 1 reversed an earlier planning commission decision to allow owners Jim and Susan Bollinger to legalize the installation of the mobile home.

The 36-year-old mobile home was moved in March from the now-closed El Morro Village to its present site.

WHAT IT MEANS

The mobile-home owners could get the council to rehear their request to keep the home on the current site.
