Vanguard University makes regional top 10

U.S. News and World Report named Vanguard University one of the 10 best comprehensive colleges in the West in its ranking of America’s top colleges last week.

Vanguard, a Christian university located in Costa Mesa, ranked seventh on the magazine’s list. U.S. News and World Report compiles the annual list with the aid of the Assn. of American Colleges and Universities.

The rankings take into account student retention rates, alumni giving, graduation numbers and other factors.

There are 320 total comprehensive colleges — which focus on undergraduate education and offer degrees in liberal arts and professional fields — in the Western region of the U.S.

“As a best comprehensive college, Vanguard University is among schools that focus on the quality of the college experience,” college President Murray Dempster said in a release. “It is exciting to once again be ranked in the top 10 among these superb comprehensive colleges and universities, and it is an extraordinary honor to be regarded so highly by our peers.”

Business experts assist county’s nonprofits

The Executive Coaches of Orange County announced Friday the addition of Corona del Mar resident Martha Ryan and Larry Tucker of Newport Beach to its coaching staff.

The group was founded by former Procter & Gamble executive Bob Cryer of Corona del Mar.

It’s mission is to provide one-on-one programs to nonprofit managers and executive directors. These businessmen and businesswomen provide nonprofit organizations with strategies on improving management, marketing, leadership, human resources, finance and technology programs.

Patrick Kelly of San Juan Capistrano also joined the coaching staff.

The organization’s 23 coaches are experienced managers who come largely from the for-profit business community and commit to giving at least 100 hours every year to Orange County nonprofits.
