May-Treanor, Lambert win

Newport Harbor High product Misty May-Treanor and Costa Mesa resident Mike Lambert each teamed with partners to win the women’s and men’s title, respectively, at the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals Brooklyn Open.

May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh defeated Rachel Wacholder and Jennifer Boss, 21-14, 21-13, in Sunday’s final.

The win gives May-Treanor and Walsh 10 victories in 12 AVP tournaments this season, including four straight.

Lambert and Stein Metzger topped Costa Mesa resident Jake Gibb and his partner, Sean Rosenthal, 21-19, 21-17, in the men’s title match Saturday.

Estancia High product Matt Fuerbringer and his partner, Casey Jennings, shared third place, while Newport Harbor High product Ty Tramblie and Newport Beach resident Tyler Hildebrand tied for ninth.

April Ross, a former Newport Harbor High standout, finished 13th with her partner, Keao Burdine.

The AVP Tour continues this week with the Boulder Open in Colorado, Thursday through Sunday.
