Suit deadline request

Faced with a Friday deadline to file a lawsuit against a development in the city of Irvine, Newport Beach officials on Tuesday decided to ask Irvine for an extension.

Newport Beach City Council has expressed concern that a large condo development and other projects planned for the Irvine Business Complex have not been studied fully and will generate traffic in Newport Beach. Newport officials will ask for 30 more days to file the suit with a goal of meeting with Irvine to resolve the issues before that deadline.

If Irvine does not agree to the extension, Newport Beach city attorney Robin Clauson will file the suit by Friday.
