Sullivan will be missed on council

City Councilman Dave Sullivan doesn’t leave the council until December, but his 12 years as a councilman have been super.

The best thing of all the good things Sullivan did for the city was his successful fight to have Central Library open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. That was a super idea and much appreciated by Huntington Beach residents.

Sullivan’s good sense of humor, his good judgment and his tenacity to see through what he thought was in our best interests will be gratefully remembered.

Enjoy life with your wife and your family. You deserve it.

Thanks for the 12 years of fond memories. You’ll be missed.

A real perspective given to Alaska

I loved reading Lou Murray’s article about Alaska (“Day-by-day look at Alaska,” Aug. 17). She has such a wonderful way of describing events — it made me feel like I was there. I’m going to Alaska in September with my sister, who is blind. She wasn’t really excited about the trip until I read the article to her. Murray made Alaska come alive for my sister, and I appreciate that. We’re both now looking forward to some reindeer sausage and hearing the sounds of a glacier!
